Historical Background & Origin

Guggul is considered an important therapeutic agent in Ayurvedic medicine and literally translated from Sanskrit, guggul means “the remedy that prevents illness”. In classical Ayurvedic textbooks, its antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving effects are described in particular. In the country of origin of Ayurveda, it is mainly used for joint complaints such as rheumatism, arthrosis and arthritis. However, Ayurveda physicians also use this tissue-cleansing agent for obesity, high cholesterol, arteriosclerosis, cysts and abscesses due to its “scraping” properties (lekhana).

Therapeutic agent

Guggul contains chemicals that combat high cholesterol levels and high triglycerol levels, both indicators of cardiovascular disease.

The bioactive substances in Indian myrrh include guggulsterone and myrhhanol. It also contains a substance that alleviates the symptoms of acne, such as redness and pain.
