Historical Background & Origin
The botanical name valerian later developed into valerian. Now there are many different medicines that contain valerian root as an additive to treat nervousness and sleep disorders. Especially in the field of alternative medicine, roots should be used to achieve a relaxed state of mind. The best known among us is Valeriana officinalis (true valerian). Valerian contains essential oils (valeric acid and isovaleric acid), which is a typical odor.
Source of Norbornylacetat
The basis of valerian's healing power is the essential oil in the root. The main component is norbornyl acetate. These are linked by valerone, valeraldehyde, norbornyl isovalerate, valeric acid and β-caryophyllene. The interaction with the so-called GABA receptors in human nerve cells is due to this mixture.Various studies on Valeriane clearly show that it should help to relieve nervous tension, sleep disorders and stomach upset.
Valerian Root
Medicinal valerian (Valeriana officinalis L.) is one of the most important herbal and non-addictive sedatives. It is used for sleep problems and mild nervous disorders. However, valerian is not only used as a herbal sedative. It is also traditionally used for mental overexertion, poor concentration, stress and irritability, anxiety, hysteria and other nervous disorders of various organs and body parts.
