Historical Background & Origin
Maca is a root tuber from the Peruvian Andes. The maca plant, or Peru ginseng, originally comes from Peru and is a member of the cruciferous family.
It is used both as a food and as a medicinal plant.
Tuberous vegetables
Maca is the tuberous root of a Peruvian cress plant from the cruciferous family. The plant is therefore related to our cabbage, radish, radish, horseradish and garden cress.
Maca
The tuber is used both as a vegetable and as a remedy or tonic. The latter is available in the form of a powder made from the dried tuber. Maca is traditionally used as a natural aphrodisiac and is used in naturopathy for libido deficiency and potency disorders, as well as in cases of unfulfilled desire to have children and during the menopause. Athletes also use maca to increase performance, an effect that can also be helpful for mental work.
