Historical Background & Origin
The neem tree is one of the most important medicinal plants in Ayurvedic medicine and has been used as a panacea for humans, animals and even plants for thousands of years. Due to its diverse effects, neem (or niem) is also known as the village pharmacy.
Ingredients
The most important ingredients include the antioxidant quercetin and the antiviral limonoids nimbin, nimbidin and azadirachtin, which are responsible for the extremely bitter taste.
Neem
The serrated leaves remain green all year round and only lose their vitality in extremely dry periods. Its flowers are small and white and it bears small, sweet yellow drupes. It is one of the most resilient trees that can adapt perfectly to its environment and climate. Only in extreme cold or stagnant water can it not survive.Neem is used in cosmetics in hair care products against dandruff and in lotions for skin diseases such as athlete's foot or psoriasis. Neem has also played a major role in dental care since prehistoric times. The oil from the seeds, the leaves as well as the twigs and bark are used here.
The focus is on its anti-fungal effect, but the sacred tree can do much more.
